Orientation Visit 2010 2.0

This week, we had another 8 new volunteers (6 from NUS CSC, 2 from Terra Hope) joining us at MINDSville. Once again, Samantha gave our newcomers a briefing before the day's session began, and we took them on a short tour of MV grounds.

Coloring the boats!

Then, cutting the shapes of the boat out...

... and sticking them to another piece of paper

Adding the final touches

And voila!

On the other hand, residents in the food preparation group prepared teabreak: macaroni mixed with mayo, potatoes, and carrots.

Slicing the carrots in half slowly and carefully

Mixing them together with macaroni and mayo!

Placing the combined components into individual bowls

After teabreak, it was time for Funfit 2, where each group played games at 2 out of 3 stations.

Lixian explaining the mechanics of a well-loved game here at MV: finding balls of the same colour as the paper men you're given.

Blue on blue, yellow on yellow... hmm

For a second I thought that clump of flowers in the tree was a red ball O_O But in my defense someone actually DID stick a red ball on one of the branches of that tree (albeit a little lower down)

Another group playing volleyball down below

The third station involved musical chairs, but changed up from last week. This time, players could only sit on chairs with paper men of the same colours given for each round by the station master.

Walking around as the music plays

And quickly finding the right chair the second the music stops!

During the debrief, many of our new volunteers agreed that the day's session was a fun experience, despite some volunteers not having prior volunteering experience or interaction with the intellectually disabled. We would also like to thank all the senior volunteers for being friendly and welcoming (:

We hope to see a great turnout next week from new and older volunteers alike!

N.B. Sorry for the mistake, Terra Hope's anniversary celebration will now be on 18 September! That doesn't mean next week's visit or the week after aren't important either though :D
