visit -26/1/2007 + farewell dinner for bs

after a few weeks of rest, the normal visit for NUS side finally resumed...

first of all, was the distributing of name tags which i was less blur compared to the other time, (wit the help of the same helpful volunteers!). the groups were den led to their 4 areas, hahhaa... yah.. this week i din kena the singing again...

i got the a & c instead which is making of lanterns for cny decor. i found it very familiar as we did something v similar for the MAF. so, i find that i can ownself teach the residents alr..heheh! but unfortunately, some residents are not v cooperative today so I have to "confiscate" their staples (actually is secretly take away the stapler so they they will concentrate on the latern making).. den oso have to try really hard to engage them in the lantern making..

other stations did egg sandwich, cny songs, obstacle course... the rest u all blog leh!

for the 2nd part of the programme we played the ball passing game at the hall there. those who got the ball when the music stop will kena fore-fit which include dancing, singing (in front of everyone!!!). i think they are really really v brave... and ppl like john can dance very well! hahha.. in the end, the residents so enjoy doing fore-fit that even those who nv kena went up to dance as well! SO, everyone got really entertained~! after that, we switched to playing musical chairs. haha... i realised that playing simple game like musical chairs with the residents can also be exciting when everyone go rush for seats altogether.

... and i think today's programme is very important cuz its like the last time we are seeing boon song alr. yup... so today everyone gave him alot of face by having dinner tog (which i believed made him so touched that he served food to all of us) cuz he's one very dedicated volunteer who has always been around -even before mindville was moved to hougang

supportive volunteers...

big thanks to ivy who took the trouble to write down all our orders

who haven got their food?

csc day -19/01/2008

last sat, some of our mindsville residents went to NUS for exchange programme...

my group did not contain any of our residents so...

blog about the bus ride lor...

the bus stopped to pick up some older residents from other homes (they were mostly seated in front). the yellow thing at the corner is yong cheng and i was seated behind and the residents were concentrated at the back.

i think the residents enjoy the bus ride alot as there are many fasinating stuffs: shophouses, construction, and saw the ferris wheel q close-up. we also crossed rivers (via expressways lah...) and overtook cars

haha... this one so big... sure can see it's "CSC day"

some interesting games~

i believe all the older folks win this game hands down. din expect them to use real fish actually.. but was really fun! like back to the kampung days...

... there were also "fake" fishes...

actually, the objective of the game is to fish out all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle which looked like this when completed:

after the games we had a really nice refreshments (which include ice cream!) and everyone is very excited esp the children ^_ ^

hahah... sorry if the post falls short and is not in enough detail... yah.. the forgetting curve says memory depreciate over time and its been q a few days alr...

Normal Project 19th Jan 2008

Time flies when we are having fun... After the last 2 weeks of fun and excitement in TH Chalet and TH Camp respectively, it's back to our usual project routine :) Yeah~ *grinz*

For this week project, it's kinda of quiet because the NUS volunteers were not around due to their NUS CSC Day and they bought some of the residents over to NUS to support the event as well. But we had some new volunteers from NYJC to help us out for their CIP. It's great to see new faces and do hope that they will come back to TH again once their CIP :)

Due to the reduced number of residents that day, the usual routine was adjusted slightly, like the music station group (by Wu Zhen) was combined with the exercise group (by Jiehua) and become a big exercise group instead (no music involved) etc. Cooking station resumed as per normal and the last station was road drawing(by Justin) at the back gate of MV. Initally, I was following one of the group to the road drawing station but when I reached there, there were so much more volunteers than residents... Hence, I decided to head to the hall to help out Kelvin for the preparation for the next half of the project... Actually it was to make myself useful and to "act busy" :p *just kidding lah*

The next half of the project highlight is a DIY maze by Kelvin, interestingly made up of chairs tied with raffia string to create the border and as well as dead end. Besides that, there are some mento sweets on selected numbers of chairs, something like "point system" for the residents walking within the maze. At first, most of the residents simply walked in just to "collect points", thus the initial maze duration was quite fast. One thing which was very worth mentioning was that our beloved Kong Pok who usually likes to throw tantrum most of time actually tried out the maze not once, but twice with Esther guiding him. :p Well done~ Kong Pok... and Esther, you are the new choosen one after Marn Chee... Wahahaha~ :p

Soon, there were changes to the maze... they added "monsters" (Yehui, Jiehua, Myself, Kelvin etc) to hop around in one leg to "confiscated" the residents' sweets... and the best one which was towards the end of it was that once a resident and his/her volunteer was tapped by a "monster", he/she would form part of the human chain behind the "monster". Since there is about 2-3 "monsters" (can't really remember the exact number), there were alot of chaos within the maze as everyone was trying desperately to escape from us. :D If one really observed carefully, this maze game looked something like a real-life pac-man game that we used to play during the good old days... :)

Although it's kinda of tiring for the "monsters" and volunteers within the maze, but it's worth it cause everyone were enjoying themselves, especially the residents :) The day was ended with a birthday song and a birthday cake dedicated to all those volunteers who were January babies... :D

okie... hahah..i think some ppl are getting v excited over this o.O

for those who missed the TH camp... here's a bit of update... yup.. + some nice pics taken by the GLs who not only took care of us but also took damn alot of photos throughout like the battery is free like that...

DAY 1:

we started off taking public transport to sembawang to shop for groceries... according to the organizers, its suppose to teach the residents how to be independent and use the ez link card...

yup.. the residents are really excited to take public transport (instead of the normal chartered bus) cuz they keep asking go where, wat is this... how to go...stuffs like that..

ann teaching the residents how to choose fruits (.. looks really pro in this pic but dunno real or not)

i think the grocery shopping part coordinated by pauline is really an innovative part of the TH camp... must get the correct item lor.. and cnt over budget oso. some of the stuffs are really hard to find lah!

at sembawang CC~

night bbq~

nope.. dun worry... we were not exploiting the residents...

instructing and teaching... see benny is so happy to learn from uncle

wah... this method of setting up the bbq pit really attracted the attention (or apprenshension) of the volunteers!
got see that they also used drain covers?

after bbq- scavenger hunt~

task 1: count the no. of ships

An extraordinary chalet

Fell into a deep slumber after I returned from the chalet. It totally shagged me out! But it was a quite a different experience, not the typical slack, play mahjong, bowling, watch vcd chalet. Unfortuantely I did not bring my camera out in the day during the games, but nonetheless here are some pictures worth sharing. The rest (not many more acutally) can be found in the online album as usual.

Lixian making herself very useful. Luckily the rain did not carry on thru the whole BBQ.

Its great to be at a BBQ where everyone is so enthu in cooking.

Terra Hope

Shouting to the waters - I want to get all As for A Level. All the best!

Sorry Dennis, I lied to you!

World Class Breakfast

To end off this post, check out the following videos! The first two are proudly done by our future terrorists and bombers while the last one shows the march in during breakfast.
