CSC Day 2009

Here's how the story goes: Once upon a time, there was a boy who was playing a video game. Suddenly, this weird dude appeared on the screen and told him to knock his head against the television thrice. Uh... yea. So he did. Don't ask me why. Anyway, it's kind of like "Pleasantville", in the sense that the boy got "transported" back to the past through his television. Woo hoo!

Well, such was the premise for the opening skit of CSC Day 2009. It was quite original, and certainly very entertaining. The theme this year was (you guessed it) "Yesterday Once More".

Lovely props, kudos to the organisers.

We were divided into groups, with each group consisting of volunteers and beneficiaries from various sub-clubs. Here's one of the station games, which involved sliding objects across a coloured board onto "target" stripes:

Another part of the same station, with an environmentally-friendly touch:

A cutesy version of Orwell's "Animal Farm":

Not. It's actually rather well-made decoration for the "disco" station, and these were our enthusiastic instructors:

(Okay, I know they look like they're shrugging, but that's just because I took the shot at the wrong time.)
Speaking of shots, here's a station where we got to shoot birds with slingshots. *Gasps* (Outrageous, cruelty to animals, cardboard though they may be!)

And...

What on earth? This is too bizarre for words...

Moving on, at another station, the beneficiaries had the opportunity to commit mass "insecticide":

Hmm... animals seemed to have been some sort of sub-theme this year, as here's yet another station that made use of the "animal" concept, namely fish:

Ahh... and home-made foosball!

A funky-looking, little foosball man (I'm rather fond of him):

In tune with the "blast from the past" theme, here's a photo gallery-style jigsaw puzzle:

The (sponsored) food was good.

And of course, here's a shot of the finale:

This year's CSC Day was a truly enjoyable event for everyone, and it enabled volunteers and beneficiaries from the various sub-clubs to come together, mingle and have fun. Here's looking forward to next year's CSC Day!

Visit -10 Jan 2009

(Thanks to SH for the previous post. Sorry, the blog's been a little quiet for a while, partly because I was out of the country. Uh... someone, anyone... feel free to post entries as well!)

Anyway, on with the story.

It was a lovely Saturday afternoon (well, actually, I don't really remember what the weather was like, but I reckon it wasn't too bad), and we converged once again at the home.

Do my eyes deceive me? Well no, they do not. YY, Big Stella and SH seemed to be on the same wavelength that day, in terms of choice of t-shirts.
For the first half of the programme, we had an origami-folding class, instructed by none other than the charismatic Lixian.

What did we make? Well, the time of year for new clothes is coming around again soon (i.e. Chinese New Year)...

It was an enjoyable and rather engaging activity, and through repetition, the residents could even remember the steps after a while.
For the second part of the programme, we had station games.

Spring-cleaning before the festive season? Not exactly... here's another station game involving a broom, a ball, and a hoola hoop. Sort of like hockey, except that it used a broom instead of a stick, and had a hoola hoop for a goal.

More 'spring-cleaning' -- put your toys away when you've finished playing. Heh. Yea, right. ('Lame', right? Well, I'm just trying to sound interesting...) Anyway, you guessed it, here's another station game, where residents tossed a ball into a pail:

Ooo... guess who was arrested?

Not. That was a game we played on the stairs, where residents had to balance a bean bag on their heads while climbing the steps.
And here's a football-bowling hybrid:

And guess who was a Monkey?

Hur hur.

Overall, the station games were fun, and they gave the residents the opportunity to develop their coordination and motor skills.
After the session, we went to Chinatown to grab a bite.
Shawn gave some of us a lift in his (relatively) new car.

Another picnic dinner, under the stars:

Anyway, besides being the first day of the new NUS semester, the upcoming Monday also happened to be YC's birthday! We strolled over to TCC for a little celebration:

Ooo... a scandalous (not to mention conveniently blurred) shot... I'll leave you to imagine what happened, shall I? Hur hur.
I wished him a couple of days early, and then on the day itself, so might as well go full circle, eh? Happy belated!
