Time flies! In the blink of an eye, it's time to welcome new volunteers here at MINDSville. We had a grand total of 9 new volunteers coming down for our orientation visit (and more from CSC Outreach to come next Saturday!)
The session started off with a short briefing by Samantha for the new volunteers
For Funfit 1, residents coloured and cut out paper butterflies, which were then pasting on satay sticks (there were no straws to be found ): )

The completed butterflies!
The food preparation group prepared hotdog salad, which included cut-up hot dogs (surprise), crab meat, lettuce, then mixed together with mayonnaise.

After teabreak, we had a session of dancing and musical chairs for Funfit 2. It seems like dancing is an integral part of every orientation visit (see last year's Orientation Visit 2009 post for reference).
Warming up...

Doing the chicken dance!
Some eager demonstrators of the chicken dance!
Looks like our new volunteers are very enthusiastic about the dance as well

Dancing to Speedy Gonzales in a giant circle
The last activity for the day: playing randomized musical chairs (i.e. they're not in a traditional circle formation)
Walking around while the music plays...
Who's left standing after the music stops?
After tiring ourselves out with dancing and running around, it was time to celebrate the birthdays of residents and volunteers born in the months of July and August.

Make a wish, blow the candles and cut the cake!
Isn't my cake-cutting so artistic? HAHA.
All in all, it was a fun session and we hope the new volunteers enjoyed themselves as much as we did on their first time at MINDSville. We hope to see most of them joining us as regular volunteers! Senior volunteers, don't forget to come down next week to welcome and support other new volunteers who will be coming for the first time (:
