MINDSVILLE: Orientation Visit 2009

This year, the Orientation Visit for new volunteers took place last Saturday. After a briefing for new volunteers, we started Funfit 1, during which the residents made paper houses.

Funfit 1 was a little complicated, as the craft that we tried to teach was more difficult than usual. However, it was good to see that some residents were still up to it, and were still able to produce fairly good pieces of craft.

For Funfit 2, the low-support groups (Blue and Red) went to the MPH for dancing and jungle-themed games. As Huiqi later explained, this was the preliminary version of a drama/role-playing type of activity that's still in the pipeline. The purpose of such an activity would be to inculcate in the residents the ability to play certain roles in daily life, such as that of a well-behaved member of the general public. The Chicken Dance, which is already familiar to (as well as enjoyed by) most residents and thus requires little prompting, was used a warm-up activity.

Meanwhile, the Yellow and Green groups played station games, which served as a form of physical exercise.

What's this? Well, WC calls them bathroom slippers, but I'll defend the honour of my footwear by declaring that these slippers have been to a lot more places than just the bathroom!

The Orientation Visit was concluded with the customary debrief, during which all the volunteers introduced themselves to each other, and comments as well as feedback were given.

After that, we adjourned for dinner at the new NTUC Mall near the home.

Hmm... something scandalous happened next behind that menu, as some people already know... but as I am not without morals, I shall not post that shot anywhere online... I think. Hee hee...
