220308 Swimming Outing

yay TH project is back on! and it's a swimming outing at Jurong East Swimming Complex for the residents today. my second swimming outing with them(:

things weren't really smooth in the beginning. partly because we were REALLY short of female volunteers. you know how we always lack male volunteers for outings, but this time round, it's the other way. it's not easy to handle with so few volunteers around. oh well, hope to see more around for the next swimming outing.

we were supposed to reach at 3pm but we ended up reaching the swimming complex half an hour later because the bus came late. then it had to start raining after we had changed into our swimwear and were collecting our floats. the pools had to be closed temporarily because of lightning, and a few of us were stuck waiting at the float counter. we were all quite sian while waiting for the lifeguard's whistle to signal that we could get back into the water. after a while, we headed back to the cafeteria area to grab a bite, and so we waited and waited....until the whistle came. the residents were so excited, all rushing to the pool :D

first stop: the lazy pool. it's actually my first time at the pool, since i didn't get to get in the last time. the current was really strong. like once you get in, you'll have difficulty getting out especially when traffic starts to congest. i had to hold on to the walls when i was helping residents to get out. but it was fun pushing the residents who were sitting on their floats and getting banged into by them.

next stop: the tidal pool. i like this, because it's actually quite fun and exciting especially with the "rain" thing. it's quite hard to see things clearly when the "rain" gets heavy, and the water is very very cold. and we would just bang here bang there again.

we wanted to go into the lazy pool for the last time before leaving, but the lifeguard told us it was out of order already -_-


due to the lack of female volunteers, Ken actually planned to help by attaching to female residents, but under the condition that i must be around. things got better when few of the not-going-into-water volunteers helped by standing by the side of the pool to look after the residents. the higher-function residents also helped by looking after and engaging the lower-function residents, which i thought was very nice and warm. must thank them for making things easier for us :D and also the help from some other nus csc volunteers who aren't from mindsville but went down even though i'm not sure of the reason.
encountered some difficulties during the outing today, but seeing the residents having so much fun just makes you happy :D
