Last Saturday was a rather special occasion with the addition of new volunteers into this wonderful family of volunteers and residents. I hope the orientation visit did manage to give them a better idea about the programmes and a better understanding about the residents.
I've got nothing much to say about the programme since it's the normal programme. Just that, I like to be at the art and craft station! (Maybe because I was the station master last time, haha.) To be honest, I was rather tempted to do the colouring together with the residents. Yes, the child in me. Something which tickled me was, Wai Han actually started singing and holding the colour pencil like a microphone while colouring. And Meng Ai started singing to herself too. It's a pleasant sight to see the residents enjoying themselves even through such simple activities.
Anyway, kudos to the new programme team (Sin Hui, Yani and Elicia) for a job well done even though there might be some minor hiccups here and there. They have really put in lots of effort to make the programme beneficial and entertaining for the residents. Don't be discouraged if things don't seem to go smoothly as planned. Keep up the good work!
And to the new members of the MINDSville family (if they even get to see this), thank you all for making the effort to come down even though many of you stay like really far away from the home. Believe it or not, you have just made their day on Saturday. It might not be that obvious on your first visit, but the residents really do appreciate your presence. Some of you might have felt disheartened at some point in time when the residents don't seem to respond to you but don't give up. Take your time as they may just open up to you someday. I hope that as you all stay on, you will take something home with you every Saturday, just like the rest of us. Enjoy your experiences at MINDSville in time to come!
Looking forward to TH Anniversary and Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations!
FYI, the theme for TH Anniversary is "Back to School". So do wear your school uniforms this Saturday if you still have them!
Cheers,
Yingyi
